Oxlips and Woodland Management

Registration is closed for this event
The oxlip is an iconic species found only within 20 miles of Cambridge, the species has declined as a result of a reduction in woodland management and an increasing deer population during the past 40 years. Ray Tabor and Essex Wildlife Trust have spent 20 years studying this decline and in conjunction with The Deer Initiative and Woodland Trust have monitored the levels of deer impact and activity in the area. The day will look at the current status of oxlips in the NW of Essex and discuss woodland management which will help their protection into the future. The program will include: • Oxlips – 30 years of decline • Woodland management designed to protect oxlips • Managing wild deer populations • Afternoon visit to a local woodland to look at oxlips and woodland management.
